Sunset Camel Trekking in Merzouga Sahara Dunes

Activity Overview

Overview #

A camel trek across the towering sand dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga is the iconic, quintessential Moroccan desert experience. Mounted atop a gentle camel led by a local Berber guide, you will journey deep into the serene silence of the Sahara Desert.

What to Expect #

1. Welcome & Berber Scarf Wrapping #

Meet your local camel handler at the edge of the Merzouga dunes. Before setting off, your guide will happily assist you in wrapping a traditional indigo Berber turban (tagelmust) to protect your head and face from the desert sun and breeze.

2. Dune Trekking (~2 Hours) #

Mount your camel and sway gently as the caravan climbs up the soft golden sand waves of Erg Chebbi. As you travel further into the dunes, modern life fades away, replaced by sweeping views of wind-rippled sand stretching to the horizon.

3. Sahara Sunset & Tea Break #

At the highest dune ridge, dismount and walk to the peak. Sit on the soft sand as the sun slowly dips below the horizon, casting deep red, gold, and purple hues across the desert sky. Enjoy fresh mint tea before mounting your camel for the peaceful ride back.
